What is Think and Drink?

Think and Drink is a forum where people can get together to discuss complex, socially relevant issues. It is not a panel discussion of “experts” mic-ed up on stage; nor is a dinner party where conversation meanders between current affairs, the latest celeb gossip and your weekend plans (although those are pretty great, too!)

Think and Drink is a forum where people can get together to discuss complex, socially relevant issues.

It is a focused discussion with some baseline of facts (based on a pre-discussion “primer”) and light structure. The goal is not to convince others or to pick a “winning” argument. Rather, it is to provide an avenue for people to consider complex problems facing us today together, to better understand other viewpoints and nuances, and to test and grow each of our own ideas. All over some food and drinks in a friendly and casual setting.

Our hope is that through these conversations, you will begin to question not only others’ but your own assumptions and logic and leave with a new perspective. And hopefully you will even make some new friends along the way.

How does it work?

Members receive invitations to sign up for regular sessions with a set topic and a few date / time options. Each session is about 1.5-2 hours long and limited to 10-15 participants to allow each individual to have a significant voice in the conversation while having enough diversity of perspectives. A moderator (lightly) guides the discussion to ensure some degree of structure while allowing for a fluid flow of conversation.

What types of things do you discuss?

We host Think and Drink sessions on a variety of socially relevant topics. Past topics have included the 2020 US election, COVID-19 crisis, social media regulation, climate change, gender equality at the workplace, US immigration, and more.

Who comes to Think and Drinks?

We think the best conversations happen when you have enough diversity within the group to provide variety in perspectives, but enough similarities to quickly build trust and intimacy. We curate groups of intelligent, curious and engaged people who have agreed to push each other and be pushed to ensure a rich discussion.

Our members are generally young Millennial professionals. They include entrepreneurs, finance bros (and gals), non profit executives, academics, lawyers, doctors, and more.

Do I need to be an expert in something?

No! One week before the session, each confirmed attendee will receive a primer, which includes a series of resources relevant for the topic of discussion (e.g., news articles, podcasts, etc.) to help level set participants’ knowledge as well as some proposed discussion questions to prompt your thinking ahead of time.

While no expertise is expected, we do ask that you bring respect, curiosity and a desire for growth.

How do I join?

If you know someone that’s part of the community ask them to invite you. If not, send us an email us with a few sentences about you and why you’re interested. We’ll take it from there!
